Columbia County
Columbia County’s Hudson Valley farmland produces dairy, vegetables, fruit, and specialty crops that supply New York’s farmers' markets and restaurants. While agricultural abundance surrounds the region, rising living costs and rural geography can limit many families' access to fresh food. Project FoodBox is committed to supporting Columbia County households by delivering nutritious, locally sourced food directly into the community, nourishing families, and strengthening local farms.
Our seamless solutions take a holistic approach, promoting healthier communities while supporting sustainable agriculture.

Columbia County's Agricultural Heritage
Before European farmers arrived, the Mahican people cultivated corn, beans, squash, and tobacco in Columbia County’s Hudson River lowlands and gathered native fruits and nuts. Settler agriculture brought grain fields, sheep farms, and orchards that flourished on fertile riverbanks and upland slopes. Today, farm stands and fields continue that tradition, yet pockets of food insecurity remain. Honoring its agrarian heritage, the county works to ensure that local abundance reaches every household.

Addressing Food Waste and Nourishing Columbia County
Columbia County’s farmland produces high-quality vegetables, fruit, and dairy — but uneven access to grocery stores and rising costs affect many households. As food is wasted nationally, Project FoodBox ensures local harvests nourish local residents, reducing waste, strengthening local farm economies, and supporting a healthier community grounded in Hudson Valley agricultural heritage.
