Dutchess County's Agricultural Heritage
From indigenous maize and squash fields to Dutch colonial orchards and dairy pastures, Dutchess County has long been defined by fertile soil and agricultural ingenuity. Wild berries, nuts, and fish sustained Native communities before settlers introduced grain mills and fruit plantings still celebrated today. Yet not all residents share equal access to this regional bounty. Driven by its farming history, Dutchess County continues to invest in equitable food pathways for all.
